Spotlight on Martha and the Muffins
Been some time since we have heard from M+M but times are such I guess they need to reach out once again, to connect, to comment, to frame, to understand. The Toronto band had an international hit with "Echo Beach" back in 1979 and a series of albums since, last one in 2010 I believe. Their early albums show up at the shop often, also under their M+M moniker. Martha and the Muffins have chosen to cover Buffalo Springfield's "For What Its Worth" as the channel for this reemergence. The accompanying video was shot in TO including the legendary Only Cafe and Kops Records on the Danforth.
"I wanted this song to be my 'Sister' by Angel Olsen moment, with a huge instrumental outro building towards a crescendo of guitars. I think Dave kind of mellowed it out, it has this swagger to it. There’s still the huge swell, but it feels more like a sigh of relief than a big emotional moment." - Haley Blais
