Some not to be missed acts coming to Toronto in October, not to be missed for a variety of reasons too, but not to be missed regardless.
The Dream Serenade is a gathering of friends and family to raise funds for Beverley School and a Summer Bursary Fund, organised by singer/songwriter Hayden Desser and his wife Christie Greyerbiehl. This year is the ten year anniversary and already announced are Talk, Bahamas, Sam Roberts, Haviah Mighty, Cuff The Duke, Sarah Harmer & Georgia Harmer, Hayden plus there will be special guests. I’ve had the good fortune to attend a couple of times and it really is a beautiful evening.
Ok this one is mad interesting, Wednesday Oct 9 at the Concert Hall, Mdou Moctar and the Messthetics with James Brandon Lewis. I’ve been digging the new record by Mdou Moctar, afro-metal is how I’ve been describing it - all rage and determination. Plus I was completely blown over by the Messthetics with James Brandon Lewis (which features the rhythm section of Fugazi!) when I saw them earlier this year at Hillside. Mind changing, and enhancing.
Sunset Rubdown, which began as a solo project for Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade, but now is a full band, are touring their new album, “Always Happy To Explode”, and making a stop at the Concert Hall Wednesday Oct 30 2024.
