As I look back on my many years of community actions in the grand old city of Oshawa; open mics, blogs, zines, art gallery, record store shows, I am always grateful to Hillside Festival as it was there almost twenty years ago where I first discovered what exactly a community hub is - what is looks like, feels likes, even smells like - it is real and vital and puts values into physical form. The festival in Guelph continues as it has for over 40 years once again this year - July 19-21 and once again I would encourage all who can attend to attend. The fest is so much more than just performances - its a template for a well-lived life. We hand over the Open Mic to focus on performers who are on the schedule for Hillside this year.
