Although seen primarily as the current home to the 2015 Memorial Cup-winning Oshawa Generals, the Tribute Communities Centre is a multi-faceted economic driver for the City of Oshawa. With a capacity of 6,000 (give or take an event), the spin-offs for parking, hotels, restaurants and retail in revenue are substantial. And its income does not rely on the repeat business of a single team’s fan base alone.

So, good news, the Wee Pub, which traditionally shutters its stage for the summer has decided to continue Friday Night Live love right through the year. Baz and Tyson are in this Friday, June 23. And while we are on the pubs, Bollocks has Adele & Randall this Friday. And, while we are on the pubs, if you are a pub and you have tunes you should be sending us a DM or a FB invite to get your events mentioned here.

There will be a lot of you, so lean into the excitement and not the exasperation of not getting a parking spot close enough. As Country star Lee Brice would sing, “Remember, everyone is somebody’s son, is somebody’s daughter.”

Patrons of the Regent Theatre are in for a double treat this weekend. On Saturday, April 22, 2023, there is a tribute to the great singer/songwriter team Simon and Garfunkel. On Sunday, April 23, one-half of Canada’s fave singer/songwriter team Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo, brings his band to the storied venue. I’m not saying anything, but the other half does live nearby, as in Greg Keelor, recent recipient of the 2022 OMAs Lifetime Achievement and Hall of Fame awards. I’m not saying anything, but if your bestie was in your area, you could imagine a visit. Anyway, I’m not saying anything.

Take the DeLorean out this weekend if you are heading to the core. We are going forward to the past with some chart-busting Cancon icons and a couple of tribute acts. Downtown is hitting up all the pre-millennium years, when, with the 21st century breathing down our necks, we knew we were here for a short time, so have a good time, yeah?
