It could be the pop sensibilities akin to the New Pornographers, it could be the raucous sing-a-longs akin to the Lumineers, it could be the pounding beats akin to the Strumbellas, whatever that magic the Rural Alberta Advantage have, they brought all of it to the Biltmore Theatre in Oshawa Dec. 2, 2022.
The first time I caught the RAA they were busking outside the Velvet Elvis on King, mid aughts if I recall correctly. When they played to those handful of kids on the street they gave it their all. When they played to a sold-out crowd Friday they also gave it their all. The Biltmore crowd gave just as much of their all back; those folks, they knew the words, cheered at the intros, clapped, stomped, danced, did the hoot and did the holler, and, oh, it gives one faith in the power of live music, a faith it has to be said wavered over the last few years, but man one hundred per cent restored after that gig.
