The mighty ShwaRawk City is well represented among the nominees for the 2024 JUNOs. The annual Canadian music awards will be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with Nelly Furtado as host. On stage during the ceremony will be 2024 Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Maestro Fresh Wes, Beaches, Charlotte Cardin, Talk, as well as Furtado. Charlotte Cardin leads the nominations with six, Talk has five, not bad for a first timer, and also on five is Daniel Caesar who has roots in the Shwa.
Daniel Caesar, (aka Ashton Simmonds) who released ‘Never Enough’ last year is nominated for TikTok JUNO Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year. Danny C just released his cover of ‘Waiting In Vain’ from the soundtrack for the new Bob Marley biopic, One Love.
Sweet circle for an Oshawa kat to cover Legend Bob signed to Island Records by Chris Blackwell who has Goldeneye the house owned by Ian Fleming who wrote the James Bond books which were inspired by his, yes Fleming’s time at Camp X in. . . Oshawa. Whut!
The ShwaRawk City’s other noms are dreamy bedroom-popsters Dizzy for their self-titled album for Alternative Album of the Year, and the progressively thinking proggy duo Crown Lands in the Rock Album of the Year category.
Winners will be announced at the JUNO Opening Night Awards presented by Music Canada Saturday March 23 and at the JUNO Awards Broadcast live on CBC Sunday March 24.
