Nice to have Deep Dark Woods back. The SASK to S.On roots band centres on the vox of Ryan Boldt. It’s the sound at the tip of a mountaintop, has that sweep of subtlety like Patrick Watson or Timber Timbre, I love it. The band have been around about two decades, I came to them through the track ‘All My Money is Gone’. They have a new single out, ‘Ruby’ plus a tour of Canada and Britain coming up with a local-ish date at the Longboat Hall in TO. Boldt says he wrote ‘Ruby’ “during a strange and difficult time, after the sudden loss of my dear friend and tour manager, Kiko, and just before my daughter was born. It was a mix of heartbreak and anticipation that I will never forget.”. Song sounds exactly like that.
