Port Hope's Cultivate being held Sept 23, 24 and 25, 2016 is the kind of fest we at SlowCity can fully get behind. It has everything we believe in; local food, drink, art, music, creativity and even a food truck, Slow Taco.
Port Hope won at one time TVO’s Best Preserved Main Street in Ontario and the little town that could has consistently valued its own arts, culture and heritage as economic drivers.
This Fall it has once again turned inwards to focus on acts and activists from its own locality, drawing from Prince Edward County on its est and Clarington/Kawarthas (west and north) as well as its own regional artisans and craft persons.
Aside from Slow Taco, Cultivate fare includes Vintage Pizza Pie Co., The Mill, Olympus Burger, Burnham Family Farm and Ruby’s Cotton Candy among others.
And there shall be beer, Manantler Brewery will be onsite, also Church Key Brewing, William Street Beer Company, Smith Hills Brewing Company and Northumberland Hills Brewery. Other liquid refreshments are available from Haut Goat and Grange of Prince Edward winery.
As for music Cultivate has one long list of have-to-sees, a fantastic line-up of alt-country, folk and roots acts; Gentlemen Husbands, Wooden Sky, Justin Rutledge, Donovan Woods. Basia Bulat, Corb Lund and Catherine MacLellan among them. There are many others too, including Billard Blossom, Patrick Dorie, Good Lovelies, Mellisa Payne, the Mayhemingways, the Elwins and Birds of Bellwoods.
The festival is spread over three days so check the schedule on the website for set times and also for the speaker series set times. Also not all food vendors will be onsite every day so check for your fave foodie outlet’s schedule too.
If you are planning on going for the full weekend I would suggest you check out Summerhill Bed and Breakfast in Port Hope, great Brit-style brekkie in a century home said to be haunted, brilliant. Check their site for availability.
